B&R's X20 Embedded compact PLC, centrally launched in March 2026, is a significant new product in the field of high-end miniaturized control. Built upon the mature technological foundation of the B&R X20 system, it combines compact design, robust performance, and flexible adaptability, precisely addressing the core industrial requirements for space optimization and efficient control. With an ultra-slim body of just 55 mm, its width is only half that of comparable PLCs, significantly saving installation space in control cabinets. It is especially suitable for industrial scenarios with limited cabinet space, requiring no additional footprint and providing greater flexibility for equipment integration.
In terms of performance, the X20 Embedded compact PLC is equipped with a high-performance Intel Atom processor, offering multiple performance levels ranging from 0.4 GHz to 1.3 GHz. Paired with up to 1 GB of DDR4 RAM and 2 GB of integrated flash memory, it efficiently handles complex control logic and operates stably even in applications with demanding cycle times. The product features an innovative fanless and battery-less design, fundamentally eliminating maintenance issues such as dust accumulation from fans and battery replacement. This results in a completely maintenance-free solution, significantly reducing operational costs and the risk of downtime in industrial environments while ensuring long-term equipment reliability.
The product stands out for its interfaces and expansion capabilities. It comes standard with dual Ethernet ports and supports daisy-chain wiring, enabling multi-device networking without additional network equipment, thereby improving wiring efficiency and reducing costs. It also integrates USB ports, high-capacity flash memory, a POWERLINK real-time Ethernet interface, and an RS485 interface. The RS485 interface can directly connect to frequency inverters without additional hardware, simplifying system integration. This product is fully compatible with B&R X20 series I/O modules and interface cards. Some models also feature reserved interface slots for flexible expansion of fieldbus protocols to meet various application requirements.
Positioned as a high-end miniaturized control solution, the product focuses on advanced applications such as robotics control and complex motion control. With its compact dimensions and powerful performance, it can be widely used in industries like machinery manufacturing and electronics manufacturing. It is particularly suitable for equipment requiring high-precision control, such as Delta robots and precision machine tools. It not only saves cabinet space but also ensures the accuracy and stability of complex motion control through efficient data processing and real-time communication capabilities, offering OEMs a cost-effective, highly reliable miniaturized control solution.
